Format descriptions

In clasify Business you edit the article description in an editor with a formatting toolbar. You see the text as it is structured and do not have to type any special characters by hand.

One thing matters here: Kleinanzeigen supports only a small subset of formatting. When you publish, clasify automatically translates your text into what the platform can display.

  • In the article under Inventar > Artikel bearbeiten (Inventory > Edit article), in the Beschreibung (Description) tab.
  • In bulk editing, in the Beschreibung tab.
  • With Vorlage einfügen (Insert template) you can insert a text template into the text in both places.

Kleinanzeigen knows four formatting types, and clasify transfers them:

  • Heading
  • Bold text
  • Bulleted list
  • Numbered list

Everything else becomes normal text when you publish: italics, strikethrough, code, quotes, links and horizontal rules. The text is kept, only the markup is dropped.

Whether Kleinanzeigen displays formatting at all depends on your Kleinanzeigen package. With a package that supports extended descriptions, clasify transfers headings, bold text and lists. Without that support, the same text is shown as continuous running text.

  1. Start with two to three sentences describing the item. Interested buyers see these lines first.

  2. Use a bulleted list for hard facts: dimensions, material, condition, what is included.

  3. Put a heading before longer sections, for example “Pickup and shipping”.

  4. Use bold text sparingly. A few highlighted terms work well; an entire paragraph in bold does not.

  5. Put standard notes such as pickup times or exclusion of warranty at the end and save them as a text template.

When you copy text from Word, a shop backend or a website, clasify removes unnecessary formatting characters on paste. The structure of paragraphs and lists is kept.

For descriptions from an import source, you control this with the HTML → Markdown option:

Without this option, HTML tags such as <p> or <ul> end up as visible text in the description.

Check in this order:

  • Does your Kleinanzeigen package support extended descriptions?
  • Is it one of the four supported formatting types?
  • Were the changes also transferred to the active ad? See Edit articles and update them live.
  • Does the description come from an import source and get overwritten during sync? Then check the source’s sync fields.
